Bettas are generally peaceful aquarium inhabitants and get along with most fish that do not fit into their mouths. Only males tend to be incompatible with other labyrinth fish, and must always be kept apart from other males. Bettas, and many other labyrinth fish (gouramis, threadfish & paradise fish) would naturally be found in both stagnant and flowing water. They are ambush predators, quickly darting out with their superior mouth to eat insects that land on the water surface etc. They do not eat any aquarium plants and do not need much space if kept singly, but do require a filtered lower-flow aquarium, and are happiest with a few floating plants, and a “weedy”aquarium. If you want to keep females as wel
